Gates of Justice Neptunian Sea-Current Passage
Status: confirmed · Technique: chekhov-explicit, background-symbol
The seed
Ch. 376 pp. 9-10 — the Gates of Justice mechanism explained
The first mechanical explanation of the Gates of Justice : the gate doors open only a sliver to admit a condemned criminal, and beyond them is a “writhing nest of Neptunians [Sea Kings] ,” as around the Grand Line in the Calm Belt — the creatures create a safe sea-current passage across otherwise-impassable seas. This is the first time the World Government’s privileged sea-routing is shown as a deliberate, controlled mechanism rather than ambient geography.
The payoff
Ch. 525 p. 4 — the back-roads network shown explicitly
The predicted covert transit network is made on-page text: a government “tub current” connects the three central facilities — Marineford , Impel Down and Enies Lobby — drawn on a map, with Vice Admiral Momonga ’s battleship riding it in through the gates. The Gates-of-Justice Neptunian safe-current mechanism is confirmed as controlled inter-site infrastructure , not ambient geography. (Structural confirmation of the network’s existence; the Buster-Call-escape geography clause was already shown at Enies Lobby. The Sea Train Sea Train Rocketman assault was staged at these very gates Ch. 376 .)

Why this matters
A background-symbol Chekhov: an off-hand geographic explanation (Sea-King nest = safe passage, mirroring the Calm Belt traverse logic established Ch. 101 ) quietly canonizes the WG’s covert transit network. The Calm-Belt-as-Sea-King-nest framing (Calm Belt As Sea-King Nesting-Ground ) is re-keyed here as infrastructure the WG controls , not merely natural hazard — the register that pays off in the later inter-site routing lore.
