Profile
A “super rookie” pirate crew jointly led by the brothers “Wet-Haired” Caribou (bounty 210,000,000) and “Blood-Splatter” Coribou (bounty 180,000,000). Introduced on the Sabaody Archipelago among the rookies answering the impostor “Luffy“‘s grand-fleet recruitment call (Ch. 600). Caribou is a two-faced “Soldier Killer” who prays piously over the men he has just murdered; Coribou buries the victims alive on command.
Etymology
Confidence: high · Named for its captain Caribou (カリブー Karibū = “caribou,” the reindeer) + 海賊団 kaizokudan = “pirate crew/band.” The reindeer theme is confirmed in-story by the ship’s reindeer figurehead, and the brother captains’ rhyming names (Karibū / Koribū) extend it. Notable events
- Ch. 600 — introduced at the fake-Straw-Hat recruitment drive on Sabaody Archipelago; the brothers murder and bury a soldier, establishing Caribou’s two-faced piety. See Caribou The Two-Faced Praying Killer Among The Super-Rookies.
- Ch. 604 — deep-sea ambush of the Sunny. Operating in the deep sea as “experienced underwater travelers,” the brothers tow their ship with a captured Grand-Line sea beast — Momoo, “caught around here” (p.10). They ambush the Thousand Sunny but their captain Caribou is taken hostage by Zoro; Momoo recognizes the Straw Hats and turns on his captors, and Coribou’s Gatling-gun order misfires the plan.
- Ch. 605 — rescue ship crushed by the Kraken. Coribou charges into the deep sea with his men on sea cows to save the captured Caribou (“We’ll save you, brother!”, p.4), but their vessel — “even bigger than Sunny” — is destroyed by the Kraken (p.5).
- Ch. 606 — Caribou stows away on the Sunny. Captain Caribou (captured at Sabaody) is revealed hiding in a barrel aboard the Thousand Sunny during the deep-sea descent, plotting to murder the Straw Hats on arrival at Fish-Man Island.
