“Blood-Splatter Coribou” · alive · co-captain of the Caribou Pirates · first shown @0600

Profile

Brother of “Wet-Haired Caribou”; “Blood-Splatter Coribou,” a pirate captain “well-known for killing Navy soldiers.” Named in Ch. 598 p.12 among the high-bounty rookies the impostor “Straw Hats” cite as fleet recruits.

Etymology

Confidence: high · コリブー Koribū is the rhyming counterpart to his brother Caribou (Karibū / Koribū, both ending -bū) — a stock One Piece sibling-pair naming convention — sharing the caribou/reindeer theme that also gives their ship its reindeer figurehead. His self-applied nicknames stack the male-name suffix -助 -suke (‘help / assist’) onto unusual roots: 兄助 anisuke (ani ‘elder brother’ + -suke) and 神助 kamisuke (kami ‘god’ + -suke). Epithet “Blood-Splatter Coribou.” Source: One Piece Wiki — Coribou.

Arc-by-arc updates

Fish-Man Island — referenced (Ch. 650) — not shown

  • Referenced (not shown) by his brother Caribou (the treasure thief): “my brother and the best are at the harbor!! Let’s take a little trip into the new world together!!” (p. 10).

Return to Sabaody (Ch. 598)

Return to Sabaody (Ch. 600) — first SHOWN on-page

  • First appearance: shown as co-captain and brother of Caribou in the Caribou Pirates; caption “Blood Splatter Coribou — also captain, [Caribou’s] brother.” Buries his brother’s murder victims alive on command (pp. 7-9).

Fish-Man Island descent — gravedigger; sights the Straw Hats (Ch. 603)

  • Caribou’s gravedigger brother: digs the burial pits at Sabaody’s Grove 46 (“Big brother! It’s hard to dig here!” — the island is tree-roots) and prays piously while doing it (“Will the Lord forgive this Coribou?”, pp. 2-3).
  • Spots the diving Straw Hats at the chapter’s close: “Big brother! Dead ahead! It’s the Straw Hats!!” (p. 17). See Caribou Trails The Straw Hats Toward Fish-Man Island.

Fish-Man Island — deep-sea ambush (Ch. 604)

  • Left aboard the Caribou ship when his brother boards the Sunny; cries “Big brother!!” and orders the crew to “give ‘em a nice greeting with the Gatling gun! Kill all the Straw Hats!” (pp.7-8) — only to realize Captain Caribou is already a hostage on the enemy ship.

Fish-Man Island — the failed deep-sea rescue (Ch. 605)

  • Arrives in the deep sea with his men riding sea cows to rescue the captive Caribou — “AYE! WE’LL SAVE YOU, BROTHER! AND MY MEN!” (p.4) — but their ship (described as even bigger than the Sunny) is crushed by the Kraken (p.5).

Notes

  • Distinct from his brother Caribou .
