Chapter 605: The Kraken and the Pirates

Summary

On the descent toward Fish-Man Island the bubble-coated Thousand Sunny is set upon by the Kraken, a colossal centuries-old octopus of legend. Luffy declares he wants to tame it as a pet rather than kill it, so Franky improvises individual “swim coating” bubbles and the crew fights the beast underwater while staying tethered by lifelines. Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji go out to subdue it: Sanji blitzes it with “Blue Walk” speed and Diable Jambe, Zoro carves a tentacle with “Crossing the Six Paths,” and Luffy knocks it senseless with a Haki-hardened (“Color of Arms — Hardening”) Gear Third Elephant Gun, while Franky, Robin, and Chopper defend the ship. A sudden deep-sea predator and a fierce down-welling current scatter the crew: the three fighters and the Sunny are sucked into the abyss and separated, leaving Usopp, Nami, Robin, Brook, Chopper, and Franky searching the lightless “underworld of the sea” — still ~10,000 m from Fish-Man Island.
