- In Ch. 802, the new Warlord Edward Weevil (note the shared given name “Edward” with Edward Newgate) claims to be Newgate’s biological son, and Miss Buckin claims to have been “Whitebeard’s lover” and Weevil’s mother.
- No on-page proof of the Newgate bloodline is given. The World Government finds the parentage claim “impressive… if a bit suspect,” and explicitly says “the truth or falsehood of that claim doesn’t matter to us.” Whitebeard was famously said to have “no biological family” beyond his crew of “sons.” Treat the lineage as a self-styled claim, not fact. The “Newgate” claim weaponizes a dead Emperor’s name/legacy as the engine for a living antagonist’s campaign: Weevil and Buckin hunt the surviving Whitebeard Pirates (and Marco) for Whitebeard’s “inheritance.” Whether the bloodline is real is left a planted ambiguity.
