- **X-mark fellowship-test on-page deployed against each Strawhat for the first time** (p. 2). Zoro briefs the crew: *'That swan guy can impersonate people perfectly. He could show up at any time and pose as one of us to kill Vivi. So, if anybody's acting suspicious... have them remove their bandage and show the symbol underneath. If they don't do it, then they're an imposter.'* He rolls up his sleeve to reveal the **X-mark on his left forearm**. Everyone confirms each other (*'Definitely, Zolo, all right.'* / *'I'LL KILL YOU!!!'* / *'Maybe you're the swan man!!'* / *'A double bluff. Very clever. Too clever for the likes of you...'*). **First on-page operational deployment of the X-mark counter to Bon Clay's Mane Mane no Mi** — pays off the Ch. 0157 Vivi-briefing-and-Luffy-fellowship-sign install.
- **Karoo at full chase-mount tier carrying Vivi through Alubarna at top speed**, pursued by Bon Clay (pp. 3-8). Bon Clay catching up: *'I told you, you can't escape me!!!'* / *'I'm going to eat you!!!'* / *'I said, WAIT!!!'* Vivi tries to dismount and fight (*'Let me off, Karoo!! I'll fight him!!!'*); Karoo refuses and pivots — *'Not that way, Karoo!! He'll overtake us on the steps!!'* — instead runs straight up the **sheer cliffs of Alubarna**. **First on-page Karoo-wall-run / vertical-traversal beat** + **first on-page Alubarna-as-mesa-city vertical-architecture canonization** (the capital is built atop a cliff-mesa accessible by long ascending steps).
- **Bon Clay's *Oh Come My Way Karate* — named combat-style debut** (p. 6). Foiled at the cliff-base, Bon Clay shouts: *'Now come down and get a taste of my OH COME MY WAY KARATE!!!'* — slaps the wall in fury (*FWAP FWAP FWAP*). **First on-page Bon Clay-as-karate-stylist** — the *Oh Come My Way* okama-道 self-coding (Ch. 0154 / 0156 / 0160) now extends from *lifestyle* into a **named martial-art register**. The Ch. 0160 *Swan Arabesque* (ballet-coded) is here joined by *Oh Come My Way Karate* (karate-coded) — Bon Clay's dual-combat-grammar (ballet ↔ karate) is canonized.
- **Bon Clay's *Oh Come My Way Karate — Relevé of Blood, Sweat and Tears* — named technique debut** (p. 7). Bon Clay starts to climb the sheer cliff in pursuit (*'Nothing is impossible for this swan!!!'*) — *'OH COME MY WAY KARATE — RELEVÉ OF BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS!!!'* — but loses grip and **falls** (*THUD...*). The technique is named on the wall-climb attempt; the failure is comic. **Second named Bon Clay technique** after *Swan Arabesque*; first that fuses karate-name + ballet-position (*relevé* = ballet rise-to-toes).
- **Karoo gets shot in the city street** (p. 9, *SHFF... SW...UMP...?!*). Vivi screams *'KAROO!!!'* / *'YOU'VE BEEN SHOT!!!'* Karoo collapses. Bon Clay catches up: *'MWA HA HA HA!!!'* / *'IT'S USELESS!!'* **First on-page combat-casualty injury to Karoo at firearm-tier** (Ch. 0120 was beating-torture-tier). Pays off the Ch. 0125 Karoo-takes-hits-for-Vivi loyalty-doctrine at the Alabasta-saga endgame tier.
- **LOAD-BEARING — Sanji enters the chase as Vivi's rescuer** (pp. 13-16). Karoo collapses after one last charge at Bon Clay (*'OOF!!! UGAH-UGAH-UGAH!!!'*); Bon Clay swan-kicks Karoo down (*SHWUSHH!!*). Then a black-suited foot stops Bon Clay mid-celebration: *'Well done, Squadron Leader Karoo. You're a real man!!'* / *'The rebel horde can still be stopped, right, Vivi?'* / *'You two are dismissed.'* / Vivi: *'SANJI!!'* Sanji: *'I'll deal with... THE SWAN.'* Sends Vivi onward with Karoo (*'I'm fine!! Take care of Karoo!!'*). **First on-page Sanji-vs-Bon-Clay matchup beat** — the BW Officer-Agent-vs-Strawhat pairing-grid for the Alubarna finale begins to populate.
- **LOAD-BEARING — Sanji canonized as *Mr. Prince* at Officer-Agent recognition tier** (p. 15). After Sanji counter-kicks Bon Clay (*THWAK!!!*) and demands Bon Clay return Usopp's sniper-goggles (*'First things first. You have our sniper's goggles.'* / *'Give 'em back.'*), Bon Clay reads him: *'You must be the infamous MR. PRINCE I've been hearing about!! So you're one of the Straw Hats!! You won't have such an easy time with me.'* Sanji corrects: *'No. I'm Sanji. A top-flight sea cook.'* **First on-page Officer-Agent-tier recognition of *Mr. Prince* as a feared Strawhat-affiliated identity** — Sanji's Ch. 0173-0177 Rainbase phone-prank *Mr. Prince* alias has propagated through Baroque Works' intel-net to Officer-Agent awareness. The alias is now a structural-asset of Sanji's combat-doctrine.
- **LOAD-BEARING — Sanji's *I'm a criminal too. I'm a pirate and a cook. But cooks shouldn't mess with criminals!!* self-coding** (p. 16). After identifying as a *top-flight sea cook*, Sanji articulates the cook-vs-criminal asymmetry: *'I'm a criminal too. I'm a pirate and a cook. But cooks shouldn't mess with criminals!!'* / Bon Clay: *'A cook?!! Well, I'm a top-flight swan!!'* / Sanji: *'Now stop trying to wreck this country.'* Bon Clay (sarcastic): *'That's right. So we're two peas in a pod, eh?!'* **First on-page Sanji-articulates-cook-identity-as-distinct-from-pirate-identity beat** — the Baratie *I am a cook first* doctrine (Ch. 0043-0068) extends operationally into the Alabasta-arc combat-self-coding.
- **LOAD-BEARING — Ms. Merry Christmas's Devil Fruit named on-page: *Diggy-Diggy Fruit*** (p. 18, by Chopper). At the Alubarna SOUTHEAST GATE, Chopper explains to Usopp: *'Ms. Merry Christmas is a human mole, thanks to the Diggy-Diggy fruit.'* / *'They're under the ground!!!'* **First on-page naming of the Mogu Mogu no Mi (Mole-Mole Fruit, VIZ: *Diggy-Diggy Fruit*)** + first articulation of the underground-burrowing combat-mechanic. Pays off the Ch. 0155 / 0160 / 0165 Officer-Agent-tier *most-officers-have-Devil-Fruits* doctrine at Ms. Merry Christmas's tier.
- **LOAD-BEARING — Mr. 4 has a *dog that works with him* — partner-animal referenced** (p. 18, by Chopper). *'And he has a dog that works with him!!'* **First on-page reference to Mr. 4's animal-partner** (forward-canon: **Lassoo** — the Inu Inu no Mi Model: Dachshund Zoan-fruit dog who is also a bazooka-weapon). The Ch. 0160 Spiders-Café pair-grammar (Mr. 4 + Ms. Merry Christmas) is now structurally a **trio** (Mr. 4 + Ms. Merry Christmas + dog). The dog is not visually shown this chapter.
- **LOAD-BEARING — Mr. 4 as *cleanup hitter* baseball-bat combat-role doctrine** (p. 18). Chopper: *'The other one, Mr. 4, is a cleanup hitter.'* **First on-page articulation of Mr. 4's baseball-bat as a *cleanup-hitter* combat-role** — the Ch. 0160 baseball-bat-prop-tell now keyed as the tactical-style (cleanup hitter = baseball #4 batting position, the power-hitter who clears the bases). Mr. 4's baseball-coding (Ch. 0160) is structurally fused with his tactical doctrine.
- **Mr. 4 swings explosive-baseball at Usopp** (p. 19). After Usopp (rescued by Chopper) shouts *'I don't get what you're talking about!!'*, Mr. 4 emerges and pitches a baseball; Mr. 4 swings the bat (*TIK TIK / KLANK!!*) — the baseball is **explosive** (*KABOOM!!!*). **First on-page Mr. 4 combat-attack with named-tier weapon**: the baseball-bat + explosive-ball pair-combo. Mr. 4 silent through the attack (consistent with his Ch. 0160 silent-character coding).

Summary
Cover (p. 1) — Hachi’s Walk on the Sea Floor, Vol. 2 — “Let’s Go Home”. Hachi the six-armed octopus fish-man walks the ocean floor among small fish (one striped eel-like creature, a butterfly-fish, several small fish, a coral-reef setting); first post-Arlong-arc Hachi cover-arc beat establishing him as alive after his Ch. 93 defeat at Arlong Park and undertaking a long return journey. Forward-canon: Hachi is making his way home to Fish-Man Island.
In-story (p. 2) — aboard the Going Merry (last on-page sail-frame for the chapter), Zoro briefs the crew on the X-mark imposter-test: “Now listen up. That swan guy can impersonate people perfectly. He could show up at any time and pose as one of us to kill Vivi. So, if anybody’s acting suspicious… have them remove their bandage and show the symbol underneath. If they don’t do it, then they’re an imposter.” Rolls up his left sleeve to reveal the X-mark on his forearm (SWUP!). The crew tests each other: “Definitely, Zolo, all right.” / “I’LL KILL YOU!!!” / “Maybe you’re the swan man!!” / “A double bluff. Very clever. Too clever for the likes of you…” First on-page operational deployment of the X-mark counter to Bon Clay’s Mane Mane no Mi — pays off the Ch. 0157 Vivi-briefing-and-Luffy-fellowship-sign install.
The Alubarna chase (pp. 3-12): Karoo carrying Vivi flees Bon Clay at top speed through the city — Bon Clay catching up (“I told you, you can’t escape me!!!” / “I’m going to eat you!!!” / “I said, WAIT!!!”). Vivi tries to dismount and fight (“Let me off, Karoo!! I’ll fight him!!!”) but Karoo refuses and pivots — “Not that way, Karoo!! He’ll overtake us on the steps!!” — Karoo runs straight UP the sheer cliffs of Alubarna (p. 5, caption-tagged: “That duck is scaling the sheer cliffs of Alubarna!!!”). Bon Clay at the cliff-base, slapping the wall (FWAP FWAP): “Now come down and get a taste of my OH COME MY WAY KARATE!!!” — first named combat-style debut: Oh Come My Way Karate. Vivi (mid-cliff): “K-Karoo!!! That was incredible!! You flew!!!” / “Not even Mr. 2 can follow us up here!!”
Bon Clay attempts the climb anyway (“Nothing is impossible for this swan!!!”): “OH COME MY WAY KARATE — RELEVÉ OF BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS!!!” — TOMP TOMP TOMP TOMP — but his swan-shoes can’t grip, and he falls (THUD…). First named Bon Clay karate-technique after the Ch. 0160 Swan Arabesque ballet-technique; the karate + ballet dual-combat-grammar is canonized.
In the city, Vivi panics (“How will I ever find Koza in this chaos?! The rebel forces haven’t reached the heart of the city yet!!” / “We have to find Chaka!! Head for the palace!!!”) — Karoo charges through a fleeing-civilian throng (RAAH!!! RAAH RAAH RAAH RAAH…) — BOOM!!! — Karoo gets shot (p. 9, SHFF / SW…UMP…?!). Vivi: “KAROO!!! YOU’VE BEEN SHOT!!!” Bon Clay catches up: “MWA HA HA HA!!! IT’S USELESS!!” / “SEE?!! DIDN’T I TELL YOU IT WAS USELESS?!” / “I KNOW!! YES!! YES!!” (Vivi crying over Karoo). Bon Clay attempts to grab Vivi (“DON’T INTERFERE OR I’LL DO YOU IN, TOO!!! HA HA HA HA HA!!! STUPID DUCK!!!”) — Karoo, on the ground, charges him one last time (OOF!!!); Bon Clay swan-kicks Karoo down (SHWUSHH!!), Karoo tumbles (UGAH-UGAH-UGAH!!!).
Sanji arrives at the rescue (p. 13). A black-suited foot stops Bon Clay mid-celebration. Sanji (smoking, in his dark coat): “Well done, Squadron Leader Karoo. You’re a real man!!” / “The rebel horde can still be stopped, right, Vivi?” (snap of fingers) / “You two are dismissed.” / Vivi: “SANJI!!” / Sanji (cigarette + raised hand combat-pose): “I’ll deal with… THE SWAN.” Sends Vivi onward with Karoo (“I’m fine!! Take care of Karoo!!”); Vivi nods (“GO!!”) and flees.
Sanji-vs-Bon-Clay matchup (pp. 14-16). Bon Clay (snake-form attack): “WHO ARE YOU?! AAAH!! YOU LET HER GET AWAY!!” / “DIE!!!” — kicks at Sanji; Sanji counters with his own kick (THWAK!!!). Sanji (cigarette, calm): “First things first. You have our sniper’s goggles.” / “Give ‘em back.” Bon Clay drops Usopp’s goggles (KLAK…) and reads him: “You must be the infamous MR. PRINCE I’ve been hearing about!! So you’re one of the Straw Hats!! You won’t have such an easy time with me.” Sanji: “No. I’m Sanji. A top-flight sea cook.” / “I’m a criminal too. I’m a pirate and a cook. But cooks shouldn’t mess with criminals!!” / Bon Clay: “A cook?!! Well, I’m a top-flight swan!!” / Sanji: “Now stop trying to wreck this country.” / Bon Clay (sarcastic): “That’s right. So we’re two peas in a pod, eh?!”
Cut to Alubarna SOUTHEAST GATE (p. 17 caption). Usopp sprints to Chopper who’s down (“C’MON, CHOPPER!! PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER!!” / “CHOPPER!!”). Chopper revives: “DON’T WORRY ABOUT ME!! ARE YOU YOU ALL RIGHT?!” / “USOPP… THANK GOODNESS YOU’RE ALL RIGHT!!” / “I’M HERE TO HELP!!” Usopp: “WHERE’D THE ENEMY GO?! WHERE’D MR. 4 AND HIS PARTNER GO?!” Chopper: “Be careful!!! They’re still close by!!”
Chopper’s enemy-briefing (p. 18). After the KRASH KRASH of distant building-collapse: “They’re under the ground!!!” / Usopp (panicking): “What… There’s no one there!” Chopper: “Ms. Merry Christmas is a human mole, thanks to the Diggy-Diggy fruit.” / “And he has a dog that works with him!!” / “The other one, Mr. 4, is a cleanup hitter.” — first on-page naming of Ms. Merry Christmas’s Devil Fruit, first on-page reference to Mr. 4’s dog-partner, first on-page articulation of Mr. 4’s cleanup-hitter combat-doctrine.
Combat-cliffhanger (p. 19). Usopp dives belly-flat (WHOA!!): “DUCK!!” — Mr. 4 throws a baseball (SHUP!!) toward home plate; Mr. 4 swings the bat (TIK TIK / KLANK!!) — and the baseball is explosive (KABOOM!!!). Usopp and Chopper engulfed in the blast-cloud.
SBS Question Corner (p. 20). Oda answers reader questions: (1) why his characters pick their boogers — “they just dig and dig and dig… all characters do it”; (2) the Spiders Café aesthetic was inspired by Percy Adlon’s 1987 film Bagdad Café (Vol. 18 p. 94 visual-source canonized); (3) the crocus flower symbolizes trust in the language of flowers — Oda confirms the etymology connection to Crocus the Twin Cape lighthouse-keeper.

Open questions raised
- Where is Mr. 1 / Ms. Doublefinger? The Ch. 0180 East-Gate ambush had six Officer Agents; this chapter only shows Bon Clay (vs. Sanji) and Mr. 4 + Ms. Merry Christmas (vs. Usopp + Chopper). The remaining Officer-Agents (Mr. 1 with Ms. Doublefinger) are off-frame — pairing-grid still unfinished.
- Where is Mr. 4’s dog (Lassoo) physically? Chopper names the dog as a working partner but the dog is not visually shown this chapter. Forward-canon: Lassoo will appear in the next several chapters.
- What is Bon Clay’s combat-grammar relationship between Swan Arabesque (ballet) and Oh Come My Way Karate? The chapter installs both as named-styles. Are they distinct technique-trees or overlapping?
- What happens to Karoo after being shot + Vivi-rescue-by-Sanji? Vivi carries the wounded Karoo onward toward Koza / Chaka / the palace — Karoo’s combat-arc-mortality state is now in question for the saga-finale.
- Will the X-mark counter-test survive forward-canon imposter attempts? The chapter installs the test operationally; the forward question is whether Bon Clay (or any other impersonator) will find a way to forge the X-mark.
- How did Bon Clay end up with Usopp’s sniper-goggles? The Ch. 0182 (not yet read) Usopp-vs-Bon-Clay or Usopp-loses-goggles beat is implied off-page; Sanji’s “You have our sniper’s goggles” (p. 14) confirms a prior Usopp-Bon-Clay encounter.
- Where is Mr. 2’s swan-cape henchman-line? The Ch. 0160 swan-chorus is absent this chapter — implies the henchmen were deployed elsewhere or KO’d off-page.
