Structural lore — the rigid warrior-class / commoner caste split of Wano under Shogun Orochi and Kaido. First articulated on-page Ch. 915.

What we know

  • Ch. 915: Wano enforces a rigid caste split between a privileged warrior class and the commoners, who from the warrior perspective are “chattel” — their lives forfeit at a warrior’s whim (“whether any of you live or die… is up to me”, pp. 2-3, 16).
  • Ch. 915: Serving Shogun Orochi is reserved to the upper class; lower-class people from towns like Okobore Town are barred from warrior-class venuesOkiku is scorned and assaulted as a scrap-town “outsider” at Urashima’s sumo event.
  • Ch. 915: The split is geographic too — the rich live in Bakura Town, the cast-offs in Okobore Town; ~20 years ago Orochi’s henchmen seized whatever Bakura houses they desired and drove the rest of the residents out.
  • Ch. 952 (weapon prohibition — folded from the optional “Wano Weapon Prohibition” note): Kin’emon explains that Orochi has made owning weapons a crime in Wano, so swords and spears are difficult for the rebellion to acquire — a structural obstacle to arming the samurai for the Fire Festival raid, and the reason the alliance must source katanas (what “samurai want to use most”) (pp. 12–13). A disarmament arm of the regime’s class control.

Chronology / structure

Warrior class (officials, Shogun’s retainers, Kaido’s Animal Kingdom Pirates) → above → commoners (“chattel”). The wealth/caste gulf is mapped onto geography: Bakura Town (prosperous officials’ town) vs Okobore Town (scrap-town poor), separated by a giant torii gate. Built up across Ch. 913Ch. 914 (the “protection tax,” the scrap economy, the poisoned-river underclass) and articulated as an explicit caste doctrine Ch. 915.
