Brogy: judgment of Elbaph, God of Battle (p. 6): “This is the judgment of Elbaph, God of Battle!!!” Brogy, weeping over Dorry’s body, reads the duel-result theologically. Where Ch. 116 introduced the god of Elbaf trial-by-combat doctrine via Dorry’s voice and Ch. 119 promoted Elbaph to god of war via Dorry’s voice, Ch. 120 confirms the theological-register is culture-wide, not Dorry-specific: both warriors invoke the deity. The deity-name God of Battle extends the Ch. 119 god of war register, locking in the Norse-pantheon-Tyr-coded combat-deity sub-pattern.

Duel tally canonized at 73,467 battles / 1 victory (p. 8): “73 thousand… 467 battles!! And one victory.” The Ch. 117 tally (73,466 battles / 73,466 draws) is closed with the +1 = rigged victory. The one victory is the tragedy because the duel was the form of the friendship. Installs the rival-friendship-via-combat grammar of Elbaf-culture at its load-bearing-numerical-form. The duel-loser is judged by the god; the victor is the one whose friendship-form is broken — Brogy’s grief is the moral-correct response under Elbaf doctrine, even though Brogy won. The chapter installs the honor-over-glory / friendship-over-victory doctrinal nuance that the Ch. 117 lifespan-amplified honor-doctrine implied but did not articulate.

Ch. 117 p.8, p.15 — Cultural extensions of the Code from Vivi (interpreter) and Dorry (cultural-source):

Warrior-flag honor (Vivi p.8): ‘each of them has a flag on his chest that says “WARRIOR” — those flags mean more to them than their very lives.’ Warriors refuse to let their flags be torn off; this refusal motivates centuries-long duels.

Lifespan-amplified honor (Dorry p.15): ‘because our lives are longer than yours… our desire to die with honor is greater, too.’ Long lifespan amplifies the cultural importance of how one dies over whether one lives.

Honor as eternal treasure of the homeland (Dorry p.15): ‘Material things, even life… all fade in the end. And that honor… will be the eternal treasure of our homeland. But as warriors of Elbaph… if we can die with honor, our deaths can be glorious.’ The eternal treasure construction is a deliberate echo of the One Piece itself as eternal-treasure — installing the honor / glory / treasure equivalence-grammar that recurs through every later honor-vs-treasure beat in the series.

Hundred-Year-Duel tally canonized (p.11): 73,466 battles / 73,466 draws — every battle a draw. The duel is temporally trivial within a giant’s lifetime but morally maximal.

The doctrine: When two warriors of Elbaf cannot resolve a dispute by negotiation, they fight. The god of Elbaf judges who is right by determining who survives. The survivor was right; the loser was wrong. Trial by combat under divine sanction.

Norse-coding

The trial-by-combat doctrine maps to Norse society’s:

• Holmgang — ritual single-combat to resolve disputes
• Þing (Thing) — judicial assembly resolved through Holmgang when negotiation failed

Pre-loads the Norse-pantheon iconography that becomes load-bearing in the forward-canon Elbaf saga.

Doctrinal implications

• The duel is sacred — outside intervention is sacrilege (pre-loads the Mr. 3 betrayal payoff in forward-canon Ch. 117+, where an outsider weaponizes the duel’s structure for his own gain — the unforgivable-violation-of-divine-trial register).
• The original dispute is irrelevant — Dorry refuses to discuss what started the duel (Ch. 116 p.17 — ‘QUIET! That doesn’t matter. This is a matter of honor.’).
• The survivor was right — has dark implications: if Mr. 3 engineers a fake-victory, Elbaf law would technically declare the fake-winner right. The narrative tension of the arc is the moral-failure-of-strict-juridical-doctrine under deceit.
