The gauntlet verdict Zoro Is of the Shimotsuki Line confirmed the bridge (SC1) and the doubling (SC2) but refuted the stated blood chain (SC3) as forward-dependent, and routed SC4 — the “will it ever be revealed in-story” question — to a prediction. The bet is live rather than dead for one reason: Oda did not close the door. At SBS Vol. 101 p.168 he says the family-tree names “won’t appear in the main story,” yet immediately adds re Ushimaru’s bloodline, “I’m debating whether to draw it again or hide it, so I’ll put it on hold” — an undecided authorial position, not a refusal. SBS Vol. 92 p.94 similarly hedges “this part might be featured later in the main story.” Combined with the density of on-page setup already banked — the “spitting image” recognition delivered about Zoro (Ch. 1023), the village “named for the Shimotsuki” and Kozaburo revealed as Kuina’s grandfather (Ch. 1033) — a great deal of narrative scaffolding is standing for a reveal Zoro himself has not yet been given. Priced mid-band-low (0.42) because the dominant risk is exactly Oda’s stated inclination to leave it SBS-only.

Refuter-grep for Shimotsuki | Ryuma | Ushimaru | Kozaburo | Kuina | Wado across Ch. 1188–Ch. 1192 returns zero hits in every one. No main-story lineage panel; no SBS upgrading Oda’s “on hold” to a definite “hide it.” Both the confirming and the refuting conditions remain unfired.

Material correction to the 2026-07-25 entry — its one adverse datum was a fan-scanlation misread. That entry logged “at Ch. 1189 p.13 Zoro is handed one of the 19 founder World Weapons mid-fight (‘Get it, Roronoa Zoro?’)” and scored it a passed landing spot. The official VIZ pages say something different. At p.15, the founder-weapons are driven into the ground around Zoro (“CLUNK…”, “KSHUNK…”) — staged as a deliberate mirror of the Empty-Throne panel in the same page’s right column — while a Holy Knight lectures him: “You see, Roronoa Zolo…?!” / “This is the power… …that conquered the world!!” Nothing is handed to Zoro. He is the audience, not a recipient. (VIZ also letters him “Roronoa Zolo”; the vault keeps Zoro by convention.)

Which way this cuts, honestly, is both ways, and they roughly cancel:

• Relieving. The “major swordsman beat delivered with no lineage content” was smaller than recorded — Zoro did not acquire a founder weapon, so the slot that supposedly passed was less of a slot. The weakly-adverse reading is weaker than the July entry made it.
• Aggravating. What the corrected scene is happens to be lineage-shaped in a different way: it is an explicit lecture on inherited arms and family legends — “THEY ARE THE 19 WEAPONS OF THOSE… …WHO BROUGHT THE WORLD TO HEEL!!!”, “There are no lies among the legends each family passed down!!”, with Gram named to the Shepherd family and Longinus to the Rimoshifu family (p.16). Zoro stands in the middle of other men’s ancestral blades and is given no ancestry of his own.

Worth logging alongside it, though it is doubling rather than lineage: the Knight who swings Gram at Zoro does so from a blade-in-mouth three-sword stance, calling “King of Hell, Three Sword Serpent! 103 Mercies… …DRAGON DAMNATION!! GRAM!!!” (p.14) — an opponent mirroring Zoro’s own Santoryu / King of Hell grammar back at him. That feeds the gauntlet’s confirmed doubling sub-claim, not the blood chain.

The drop condition is explicitly not met. The July entry set one: “if Zoro’s Elbaf arc closes out with the World-Weapon material fully resolved and still no Shimotsuki line, that would justify a real drop.” It has not closed out — it has not even continued. Zoro is absent from Ch. 1190–Ch. 1192 except as colour-spread art in the 1191 band spread (flagged in that note as “art, not a story appearance”). The Sea Cloud Port / Western Village fight has been entirely off-panel since 1189, so the scaffolding is still standing and unspent. Held open at 0.42.

Supporting evidence

• Ch. 1023 — Kawamatsu and Hyogoro call the healed Zoro the “spitting image” of the Ryuma-descended Ushimaru; the recognition is delivered about Zoro, who is unaware and gives no reaction — setup for a later in-story payoff.
• Ch. 1033 — The migration/naming/smith bridge lands on-page (village “named for the Shimotsuki,” Kozaburo = Kuina’s grandfather), but the chapter itself holds “the blood tie to Zoro himself remains open” (p.15).

What would refute this

Be specific — the cleaner the falsifier, the more honest the prediction.

• The main One Piece story ends with Zoro never stated or shown to be of Shimotsuki blood — leaving the lineage permanently an SBS-only fact — refutes this.
• A later SBS or interview in which Oda states he will not put the Zoro / Ushimaru bloodline into the main story at all (upgrading the current “on hold” to a definite “hide it”) — strong evidence toward refutation.
• Conversely, any main-story panel confirming Zoro descends from the Shimotsuki / Ryuma line, or where Zoro himself learns of it, confirms this.
