Etymology

The island is Karakuri Island (からくり島 Karakuri-jima); the country on it where Franky lands is Future Land Baldimore (未来国バルジモア Mirai-koku Barujimoa). Karakuri = traditional Japanese mechanized puppetry (clockwork automata), which the wiki renders “Mechanical Island”; 未来国 = “Future Country/Land,” fitting a place that specializes in cyborgs and advanced machinery — an on-theme scatter destination for Franky the cyborg shipwright. The “created by a genius” framing points to Dr. Vegapunk, whose failed weather-control bolts crown the island’s highest mountain (a Frankenstein’s-monster visual motif).

“Baldimore” phonetically echoes the U.S. city Baltimore (reader-flagged) — but there is no Oda/SBS confirmation, so that layer is speculative. The confirmable core (未来国 “Future Land” + karakuri mechanical-island theme, fitting Franky) is high-confidence.
