The locals state he “outstripped existing technology,” his blueprints are “a couple of hundred years ahead of their time,” and he is now the Navy’s leading scientist — “a treasure for all humanity,” with everything in his lab deemed “of vital importance to the whole world.” A heavy explicit setup for the scientist who will loom over the back half of the series. Why this matters
A chekhov-explicit load: the narration spends an entire interlude pre-establishing Vegapunk’s genius and the world-importance of his lab, long before he appears in person — a structural promise that the scientist will be central to the series’ technology and endgame.
