Luffy names his new flaming technique “Gum-Gum Fire-Fist Pistol… Red Hawk!!” — explicitly adopting Ace ’s Fire Fist (Hiken ) epithet. A homage in which Ace’s fire metaphorically lives on in his brother. Keep status: pending — this is a thematic tribute (friction-fire + Armament Haki), NOT the literal Mera Mera no Mi inheritance, which is forward. See Gomu Gomu no Mi .

Dressrosa townspeople spell out the mechanism that makes the inheritance possible: “After Fire Fist Ace’s death, the Flame-Flame Fruit was grown anew… If the owner of the fruit’s power dies… that fruit will reappear somewhere else in the world.” The regrown Mera Mera no Mi Luffy vows to win it so no one else inherits his brother’s power (he can’t eat it — already a Gum-Gum user; Franky declines too, p. 4). Ch. 731 — p. 18 — an Ace-bound fighter claims the reborn fruit out loud
The reborn Mera Mera no Mi is explicitly claimed by a fighter bound to Ace’s will (the surviving sworn brother, vault-identity Sabo ) — “…that Ace’s fruit is MINE!!” — reframing the prize as a literal inheritance rather than a power-up for Luffy (who defers it to him). Keep status: pending until he actually wins/eats it (~0744-0745, forward).
Ch. 737 pp. 4–11 — contenders converge on Ace’s fruit
“Lucy” (Sabo ) fights to claim the reborn Mera Mera no Mi while Jesus Burgess (a Blackbeard “Ten Titanic Captain”) tries to seize it — Sabo routs Burgess with a Dragon Claw, narrowing the field of would-be inheritors of Ace ’s flame. Ch. 744 — Sabo inherits Ace’s flame
Sabo — Ace’s sworn brother — eats the reborn Mera Mera no Mi at the Corrida Colosseum and immediately wields Ace’s Fire Fist , explicitly invoking him (“Sorry, Ace! I’m gonna use your move!!”, pp. 5–6). Whitebeard’s “someone will eventually do the same for Ace” promise (Ch. 576 ) pays off as a literal fruit-transfer to an heir of Ace’s will — not to Luffy (who already carries a fruit). Sabo is then publicly revealed as the Revolutionary Army Chief of Staff (pp. 12–13). status: confirmed, payoff_chapter: 0744.
