Awa Awa no Mi
Paramecia · current: Kalifa
Profile
A Paramecia Devil Fruit named on-page as the Bubble-Bubble Fruit (VIZ) Ch. 408 (pp. 3-4). Its user, Kalifa, is “a soap person who can create bubbles anywhere on my body” with total control over the bubbles her body produces. The bubbles can detach and “loosen and wipe away anything — dirt, of course, but also power… as well as other things” (p. 7): contact with the bubbles strips a victim’s physical strength, and a soaped/bubbled floor drains the strength of anyone standing on it. Her touch (“smooth, glossy complexion”) makes the body slip and lose its footing. Washing the bubbles away restores the drained strength (p. 8) — the fruit’s combat weakness is water.
The fruit was eaten on-page (unnamed) from Lucci’s stash Ch. 385 (and earlier, the gift from Spandam’s chest Ch. 379); the deliberately-withheld name and power are first disclosed Ch. 408. The romaji/JP name (“Awa Awa no Mi” / アワアワの実) are NOT printed in 408 — recorded here as databook/wiki inference, not on-page.
Named on-page as the Bubble-Bubble Fruit (Ch. 408 pp. 3-4). Eaten unnamed Ch. 385 (and Ch. 379 from Spandam’s chest); name + power first disclosed Ch. 408.
Etymology
- Surface meaning: アワアワの実 Awa Awa no Mi. アワ (awa) writes 泡, “bubble/foam.” The doubled “Awa Awa” is Oda’s stock reduplication for Paramecia fruit names. VIZ renders it the Bubble-Bubble Fruit.
- “Soap Human”: Kalifa is captioned a Sekken Ningen, literally “Soap Human/Person” — soap (石鹸 sekken) is the cleansing agent that lets the bubbles “wash off” not just dirt but strength.
- Pun layer: her finishing technique 羊雲リラックス泡<アワー> Hitsuji Gumo Relax Awā writes 泡 (awa, “bubble”) but ruby-glosses it アワー (awā) = English “hour” — so the name double-reads as “Sheep-Cloud Relax Bubble” and ”…Relax Hour.” The identical awa↔hour homophone gag recurs in her “Golden Hour.” The recurring sheep motif (Soap Sheep, 羊雲 “sheep-cloud”) is Kalifa’s animal-theme tie within CP9’s zoomorphic agent set.
- Confidence: high. JP name + Soap-Human caption + the awa/hour ruby pun are documented on the One Piece Wiki (etymology + technique sections).

Power limits & weaknesses
- Water/sea immobilization is universal.
- Fruit-specific: washing the soap/bubbles off a victim (or off the user’s own body) restores the drained strength — the strength-drain effect is undone by water (Ch. 408 p. 8).

Lore & theories
A soft-power negation fruit — it removes an opponent’s strength rather than out-hitting them. The deliberately vague “other things” Kalifa’s bubbles can wipe away (besides dirt and physical strength) is left open on-page (Ch. 408 p. 7). Fits CP9’s animal-theme convention via the sheep-shaped “Soap Sheep.” Cross-link Kalifa, CP9, Nature of Devil Fruits, Spandam Gifts Kaku And Kalifa Devil Fruits Pre-Mission.
