Chapter 719: Open, Chin Jao

Summary

The Block C final of the Corrida Colosseum is a duel between “Lucy” (a disguised Luffy) and the legendary Chin Jao. Chin Jao derides the new generation, naming Blackbeard Teech the only Worst-Generation pirate with “true potential” and mocking Rayleigh’s choice of Luffy as champion of the new age. As they clash, a 30-years-ago flashback reveals Chin Jao’s grudge: as the 12th Chief of the Happosui Army, his drill-shaped head alone could open a vault of centuries’ worth of his people’s treasure frozen inside the Crystal Ice Sheet — until Garp punched his head flat, sealing the fortune forever. Chin Jao left the pirate life broken and cursed Garp “to your grandson’s generation.” In the present he unleashes a Hasshoken Secret Art, but Luffy’s Gear Third Gum-Gum Elephant Gun strikes his flattened head and pops it back into its original drill point — undoing Garp’s damage — and knocks Chin Jao out of bounds into the flooded arena. Lucy is declared champion of Block C. In the stands, Cavendish recognizes that “Lucy” is Straw Hat Luffy and vows to kill him, threatening Bartolomeo, who is determined to protect his idol.
