Summary
Round 2 of the Davy Back Fight — the brutal Groggy Ring match — is underway. The Straw Hats have entered Zoro and Sanji as their two “ball-men”: each is locked into a spherical ball-helmet and is literally the ball, the object being to slam the opposing ball-man into the ring. The match opens with the Straw Hats looking dominant (“They tossed around Pickles!! They walloped Hamburg!!” — p. 2) and the crowd stunned, but the two refuse to work together: Zoro and Sanji immediately fall to bickering (“Then stop needing my help!” / “How dare you try to help me!”), standing flat-footed while the Groggy Monsters — leader Hamburg, Big Bun, Pickles, and a giant slippery fish-man — go on the attack. A corrupt referee blatantly favors the Foxy team: he ignores the Monsters’ bladed weapons and spiked shoes, then flashes a yellow card at Sanji for “attacking the ref,” threatening a red-card ejection. The fish-man’s skin is too slick to grab (“Mudfish Slippery Slide!”), Hamburg fires a “Punk Spike” off his steel elbow-cuffs like an arrow, and the Monsters run a rapid-fire “size attack” combo — Small → Medium → Large — that scores a direct hit on Zoro and a “Human Cannonball” launch at Sanji. With the Straw Hats battered and the Monsters crowing about an “easy victory” and their “second victory” (the goal that will let Foxy pick a second crew member), a bleeding Zoro turns to Sanji and says: “Lend me a hand for ten seconds. That should be enough time.”
New reveals
- Round 2 = the Groggy Ring is in full swing (p. 3: “…and the game has started”). It is a violent ball-sport: the Straw Hat “ball-men” are Zoro and Sanji, each helmeted into a ball and meant to be smashed into the opposing ring to score (pp. 3, 4, 8). (The Groggy Ring’s existence/rules were laid out in earlier chapters of the arc; this chapter is the match in progress.)
- The opposing team is the “Groggy Monsters” (p. 2, p. 14 ”…GROGGY!!”) — a Foxy-Pirates squad of three players: Hamburg (leader, pp. 2, 13), Big Bun (p. 4), Pickles (p. 2), plus a giant slippery fish-man player (pp. 9–10) whose body is impossible to grip (“I can’t attack his body… his skin’s too slippery”).
- The referee is corrupt and openly favors the Foxy team (pp. 5–7): he “just happened not to see” the Monsters’ weapons, ignores the spikes on their shoes (“He’s got spikes on his shoes!”), then issues a yellow card to Sanji for “attacking the ref,” warning that the next will be a red card / ejection (pp. 6–7).
- The Davy Back Fight stakes restated: a Groggy Ring win is the Foxy team’s “second victory,” which lets them “take their time in getting the ball-man” — i.e., conscript a second Straw Hat crew member (pp. 14–15).
- Groggy Monsters techniques shown: the fish-man’s “Mudfish Slippery Slide” evasion (p. 9); Hamburg’s “Punk Spike” — steel elbow-cuffs fired “like an arrow shot” (p. 10); the team’s combo size attack — “Small!! / Medium!! / Large!!” (pp. 13–14); and a “Sling Tackle” / “Human Cannonball” against Sanji (p. 12).
- Zoro and Sanji’s feud sabotages the team (pp. 2–8): they refuse to cooperate, draw a yellow card, and take heavy damage — the chapter’s “internal conflict” running gag (“Team Straw Hat seems to be having an internal conflict!!” p. 3).
- Cliffhanger: a battered Zoro asks Sanji to “lend me a hand for ten seconds” (p. 15) — setting up a sudden counter-gambit to be revealed next chapter.

Open questions raised
- What is Zoro’s ten-second plan, and does it turn the Groggy Ring around? (cliffhanger, p. 15.)
- Will the Straw Hats win the Groggy Ring despite the corrupt referee — and which crew member would the Foxy team take if they lose? (pp. 7, 14–15.)
- Who is the giant slippery fish-man Groggy Monster, and what is the referee’s name/affiliation? (Both unnamed on-page this chapter.)
