Structural doctrine — Grand-Line islands are culturally and temporally divergent because the route is so hostile that islands rarely receive outside visitors. Canonized via Usopp’s exploration-book passage in Ch. 115 page 18.
What we know
- Ch. 115 (p.18) — “Because it’s so hard to travel on the Grand Line, the islands here have been isolated. So each one has developed its own unique culture. Some cultures are very advanced!! Others have stayed unchanged for thousands of years!! The age of dinosaurs never ended here!! This is a prehistoric island!! The unstable climate on the Grand Line makes this possible.” (Usopp, reading aloud from his exploration-book).
- The doctrine establishes a two-tier polarity: Grand-Line islands are either (a) culturally advanced beyond the global baseline or (b) frozen in deep time, unchanged for thousands of years. The polarity is per-island, not gradient.

- Why do some islands become advanced and others become frozen-in-time? The chapter doesn’t specify the selection-mechanism.
- Is the unstable climate itself an artificial product of the Void Century history? Forward-canon: the Grand Line’s unique geography (Red Line, Reverse Mountain, Calm Belt) may all be artifacts of pre-Void-Century cataclysm.
- Are the giants of Little Garden the actual natives of the island, or did they arrive from elsewhere (Elbaf)? Forward-canon: Elbaf is the giants’ homeland; Dorry/Brogy are voluntary visitors to Little Garden.
