The seed
The seed predicts:
- The three-year drought (named on-page in the same chapter, p. 17) implies the hub may have collapsed — the crossroads may have become a wasteland. Forward-canon: Ch. 163’s sandstorm-buried-Yuba pays this off.
- Pre-loads the Strawhat-Alabasta-arc Yuba-visit as a desolation-confrontation beat.
- The map-panel’s four-arrow visualization pre-loads the traversal-pattern the Strawhats will follow through Alabasta (Nanohana → Yuba → Rainbase → Alubarna, or some sub-permutation).
- Yuba’s economic-chokepoint status makes its collapse a structural cause of civil unrest — not just a symptom.
Why this matters
The chapter installs Yuba as Alabasta’s western-desert hub — a city engineered (by Cobra and Toh-Toh) to be the connective tissue of the western kingdom. Its collapse under the drought is not just a humanitarian tragedy but a structural-economic disaster — when the crossroads-city dries up, the western desert’s entire travel-and-trade network fails. This is the engineered-collapse-of-civic-infrastructure mechanism that Crocodile is operating at kingdom-scale.
The four-arrow map-panel also encodes a prediction about the Strawhats’ traversal-route: they will move along these radiating arrows. Cross-link with the Ch. 161 Vivi-map-panel (six-city interior map) for the full traversal-pattern.
