As Vegapunk’s worldwide message declares the deaths of Roger and Whitebeard “merely the prologue of a new era,” Oda re-renders the identical Roger close-up: same scarred grinning face, eyes-under-shadow, the same dual-bubble framing — (left) “IT’S YOURS IF YOU CAN FIND IT… I’VE LEFT EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD THERE!” and (right) “MY TREASURE? WHY, IT’S RIGHT WHERE I LEFT IT.” — the verbatim Ch. 1 line. The Ch. 1 crossed-polearms + Loguetown crowd are swapped for the Egghead-escape’s radiating burst-lines and falling debris (DOOM!!), but the load-bearing composition — Roger’s face quoted by his own invitation — is preserved exactly. The page immediately rolls into the global montage of contenders and the closing declaration ”…TO THE ONE PIECE!!!” (pp. 16–17).

Why this matters

This is the third — and structurally largest — instance of the “Roger’s face + execution-speech” composition mirror tracked in Roger Execution Speech Composition Rekeyed By Rayleigh Narration (the Ch. 1 → Ch. 506 eyewitness re-key). Where the Ch. 506 quote re-grounds the legend as Rayleigh’s lived testimony, the Ch. 1121 quote redeploys it as a starting pistol: Oda re-draws the exact panel that opened the series to open the final race for the prize it promised — the cleanest macro-bookend in the work so far. Roger’s words are spoken not by Roger but by Vegapunk’s posthumous broadcast, making this also a dialogue-from-the-dead quote layered onto the composition-quote (cf. the Ch. 100 page-1 Roger-voice / page-16 Roger-scaffold double-quote noted in Panel-Composition Quotation Technique).

1 launched the era; Ch. 100 (Loguetown scaffold) and Ch. 506 (Rayleigh’s retelling) re-keyed it mid-journey; Ch. 1121 fires it toward the finish. The face is the quotation marks Oda puts around “the Pirate King’s last words” — and the change in who is speaking them (omniscient legend → eyewitness → a dead scientist’s broadcast to the whole world) carries the semantic load each time.
