Oden Castle Ruins Mark The Fall Of The Kozuki Clan Twenty Years Ago

The seed
The ruins of Oden Castle are shown on-page (splash p. 10). Wano’s official history is dramatized: 20 years ago Orochi drove the Kozuki samurai into the castle and burned them alive , then ruled as Shogun; the schoolteacher recasts it as Orochi “vanquishing Oden and the Akazaya Nine .” Kozuki gravestones stand in the ruins (p. 11). The full flashback is still forward — keep status: pending.
Okiku ’s exposition pins Wano’s collapse to a hard date — the Kozuki Clan ruled “until 20 years ago,” the “late Lord Oden ” is dead, Oden Castle stands in ruins atop the one smokestack-less mountain, and Shogun Orochi rules in their place. Oden had built Paradise Farm to feed Kuri ; it is now seized by Orochi. The line “if only we don’t ruin them ourselves…” and the careful 20-year framing flag a forthcoming flashback explaining the fall.
The payoff
The fall is narrated and shown in flashback: ~20 years ago Lord Oden was executed under Orochi , Kaido ’s forces burned Oden Castle , and Toki sent the heir + retainers 20 years into the future. Why this matters
A chekhov-explicit seed delivered as a precise date: when exposition fixes a “20 years ago” turning point and shows the ruined seat of a deposed ruler, Oda is loading a flashback that will explain the fall — installing Orochi as Shogun, killing Lord Oden, and inviting Kaido ’s Animal Kingdom Pirates into Wano.
