Kanjuro's Secret Final Act Is To Abduct Momonosuke To Onigashima
Status: pending · Technique: chekhov-explicit
The seed
Kanjuro reframes his role as his “greatest final act” — “Become Kozuki… bring down Kozuki… then die!!” — and reveals he knows Momonosuke is hidden with a kunoichi, redirecting himself to finish hunting the heir even after losing the abduction. The “final act” thread stays pending; outcome forward of window. (p. 7)
At Tokage Port , after the traitor reveal, Kanjuro states Orochi ’s instruction: his “final act” is fulfilled only “once I bring Momonosuke to Onigashima .” Coupled with the living-painting deception (pp. 13–14), this seeds an imminent abduction of the Kozuki heir as the raid begins.
The abduction’s destination is shown to land: at the Skull Dome ’s Performance Floor, Orochi ’s announcer presents the captured son of Kozuki Oden (“the boy we believed dead 20 years ago”) to the crowd as a “special event” — Momonosuke is at Onigashima , staged for public display.

(Caller TBD.)
Why this matters
An explicit, stated next-step planted at the moment of the betrayal — a chekhov-explicit threat that converts the traitor reveal into an active rescue stake heading into the Onigashima raid. Generalize: when Oda has a newly-exposed antagonist announce his next concrete objective on-page, the threat is load-bearing for the arc to come, not flavour.
