Why this matters
The longest named-before-shown slow-drip in the East-Blue → Alabasta-arc runs from Ch. 113 through Ch. 169 — 56 chapters between name + face. The slow-drip technique is one of Oda’s foundational antagonist-installation patterns; Crocodile’s debut closes the longest arc of it to date and establishes the template for later Warlord-introductions (Doflamingo, Moriah, Blackbeard, Mihawk all follow variations of named → silhouette → visual progressions).
The visual reveal is structurally paired with three load-bearing canonizations in the same chapter: the Sea-Prism Stone naming, the Warlord-trust-of-WG doctrine (Crocodile World Government Trust Doctrine), and the guest of honor hostage pre-load (Crocodile Guest Of Honor Reference Forward-Canon Hostage).
