The Ch. 0127 first-on-page-voice seed cashes when the voice, face, and fruit-mechanic appear in the same scene for the first time. The Ch. 0127 Snail-o-phone dialogue register continues: cold, clipped, command-tone (“Now go, all of you. You’ll be late for the party.” / “Have fun.” ). The cold-tactician affect carries across all reveal-tiers — voice (Ch. 127) → face (Ch. 155) → body-tableau (Ch. 165) → fruit-mechanic (Ch. 166). Status: confirmed at the voice-anchor tier.
Ch. 127 pp. 9-17 — Crocodile speaks on-page for the first time in the series
Crocodile (Mr. 0, boss of Baroque Works) speaks on-page for the first time in the series over the Snail-o-phone, rendered only as a heavily-shadowed silhouette behind a desk at Baroque Works HQ. His calm, clipped command-register (“I asked you a question.” / “In other words… you gave me a false report.” ) and the menace-tell of snapping a flower-stem (SNAP!! , p. 16) install his cold-tactician characterization before his face is ever seen.
Ch. 161 pp. 2-4 — the behind-the-desk silhouette composition continues at his Rainbase HQ after the Ch. 155 face-debut
Ch. 0161 returns Crocodile to a heavily-shadowed silhouette behind a desk at his Rainbase Alabasta HQ — re-uses the same Ch. 0127 staging now at the seat-city named Ch. 0160. The face-debut landed at Ch. 0155, but Oda continues to deploy the behind-the-desk villain-grammar in HQ-staged briefings even after the face is canon — the composition is the boss-issuing-orders register, not a face-coyness register. Ch. 168 p. 19 — voice extends into partial-visual close-up: stitched-mouth scar revealed mid-laugh
The Ch. 0126-127 voice-on-page slow-drip extends to a partial-visual close-up at the same casino-HQ command-register : “Yes. I just got word from the Millions. Ha ha… Go greet those fools!!” — but now with a close-up of Crocodile’s stitched-mouth scar mid-laugh. The voice-tier is fully canonized; Oda continues to deploy the scar-before-face iconography even after the Ch. 155 full-face debut (the partial-face composition emphasizes the scar as the load-bearing visual feature).
The payoff
Ch. 169 pp. 12-14 — voice + face unified at the Strawhat-engagement tier; flower-stem-snap menace-tell reprises in person
Crocodile is fully shown on-page face-on inside Rain Dinners’ V.I.P. cage-hall. The named-before-shown slow-drip (Ch. 0113 named → Ch. 0113-0114 Warlord-boss confirmed → Ch. 0126-0127 voiced over Snail-o-phone in silhouette → Ch. 0155 visually revealed → Ch. 0169 face-on engagement) closes at the protagonist-engagement tier. The Ch. 0127 flower-stem snap menace-tell reprises in person (p. 13, “FMP..!!” ) — the body-language fingerprint that tied his off-page voice-grammar back to a future on-page combat-grammar is now visually paired with his face.

Why this matters
Extends the named-before-shown slow-drip — Crocodile named Ch. 0113, confirmed boss + Warlord Ch. 0113-0114, voiced Ch. 0127 , visual debut forward-canon (~Ch. 155+). The silhouette-behind-the-desk staging is Oda’s standard crime-boss-reveal grammar. The reader knows Crocodile’s manner (controlled, suspicious, ruthless toward false reports) long before his appearance — a deliberate character-by-voice install.
