Summary
Bege’s coup reaches its emotional fulcrum. With the Big Mom Pirates’ assault on the Tea Party stalled, the allied forces re-show the already-smashed portrait of Mother Carmel to keep Big Mom destabilized — but she fails to scream until grief finally breaks through. Caesar Clown supplies aerial support and a mirror as the escape key; Katakuri, taunting the candy-trapped Vinsmokes that he “can read the future,” is fired on by Gang Bege; Sanji rescues Reiju from a homie-gun and Reiju declares his kindness has redeemed the Vinsmoke bloodline in her eyes. When the shattered portrait registers, Big Mom collapses into a weeping, world-rattling scream — “MOTHER!!” — that flattens homies across Totto Land and visibly weakens her, exactly as the assassins planned. The chapter closes on Linlin pleading at the portrait (“Hey, Mother… why did you just up and vanish? Where did you go?”) and the flashback frame: “ELBAF — sixty-three years ago, in the New World.”
New reveals
- The assassins’ kill-window depends on Big Mom’s psychology: smashing Mother Carmel’s portrait triggers a grief-scream that incapacitates her (“She’s weakened”).
- Katakuri openly claims he “can read the future” while taunting the trapped Vinsmokes (p. 5) — first hint of his advanced Observation-Haki future-sight.
- Caesar Clown is bound to the operation by his held heart (“Once this mission is complete, my heart will come back!!”, p. 2) and provides flight plus the escape mirror.
- Reiju declares Sanji’s compassion proves “there is still a conscience to be found in our bloodline” — the redemption beat for the Vinsmoke line (p. 6).
- Mother Carmel “up and vanished” — an unexplained disappearance; the flashback into Big Mom’s origin opens at Elbaf, 63 years ago (p. 17).

- Page 17 — Linlin pleads at Carmel’s grinning portrait; cut to “ELBAF — sixty-three years ago, in the New World” over a coastal establishing shot; tall hooded silhouette of Carmel.

Open questions raised
- Who was Mother Carmel to Linlin, and why/how did she “up and vanish”?
- What happened at Elbaf, 63 years ago — the origin point of Big Mom’s story?
- How far does Katakuri’s “read the future” ability extend?
- Will Big Mom’s scream-fit hold long enough for the allied forces to reach Brulee’s mirror?
