The Zou arc opens by making a giant proboscidean the literal foundation of its world: Zou is a thousand-year-old elephant, Zunisha, with a whole mink nation living on its back. When the arc then unveils the antagonist who razed that nation, Oda restages the same composition — a colossal tusked proboscidean dwarfing the humans at its base under a huge impact SFX — but swaps the living elephant for an extinct, ancient mammoth: Kaido’s Lead Performer, Jack the Drought. The guardian colossus and the destroyer colossus are deliberate visual mirrors of each other.
