The Harald backstory lays it bare: to add Elbaf to the World Government, King Harald was tricked into a covenant whose real terms were to use “Elbaf’s entire warrior population to build a giant fleet rivalling the Navy — the giants as war-slaves” (Ch. 1168); joining the Knights of God “actually meant enslaving Elbaf’s giants as battle-slaves” (Ch. 1169). The Holy-Knight trio’s live mission restates the exact child-hostage mechanism Sommers named @1147 — “kidnap ten giant children, hold them hostage, and coerce Elbaf’s warriors into becoming World-Government battle-slaves bound for the Holy Land” (Ch. 1172 p. 12).
