Ch. 152 pp. 3-4 — Wapol re-launched off Drum Castle at arc-climax tier
Luffy launches Wapol off the castle parapet with a two-fisted Gum-Gum bazooka (SHOOOOSH!! / BOOM!! ). The Ch. 132 “Captain Wapol’s been hurled into space” / “can’t swim” cliffhanger — first cashed structurally (off-page, with us never seeing the launch) — is now re-cashed at arc-climax tier on-page . Wapol exits the on-page Drum-arc story here. Chess and Kuromarimo arrive at the castle moments later: “So that thing that flew across the sky earlier was Wapol!!?” (p. 7) — confirms the launch was visible from the castle base. The cast-out king register that defined Wapol’s pre-arc history is now operationally complete: deposed by Blackbeard (Ch. 133 off-page), re-deposed by Luffy at the same kingdom-seat.
Wapol’s panicking retainers cry that “Captain Wapol’s been hurled into space!!!” and “Captain Wapol can’t swim!!!” — the latter a textbook Devil-Fruit-user tell. Enraged men scream “Remember us!!! We’ll get you for this!!!” after a departing ship. (Note: Wapol was already introduced and named on-page in Ch. 131; this is his off-page mention this chapter, establishing the cast-out-king situation.)
The payoff
Why this matters
The cast-out-king beat seeds Wapol’s return as the Drum Island arc’s
antagonist. The off-page raiding party that displaced him is the negative-space
mystery — forward-canon, Blackbeard’s crew (cross-link
Blackbeard Multiple Fruits ). The can’t swim line plants the
Devil-Fruit-user tell before his fruit’s mechanics matter on-page. The pattern
a deposed ruler is removed off-page, then returns to reclaim his territory as
the arc villain recurs across the series.
