Why this matters
This is the avenger-from-outside arc-template (Luffy arrives in a kingdom he has no native stake in, picks up the cause of the persecuted, and breaks the tyrant). The Drum arc’s climactic Wapol-Luffy fight on the castle exterior unspools from this moment.
Important nuance: Luffy is not on-page motivated by Hiriluk (whom he never met); his vengeance is for the Going Merry (Ch. 131), the Bell Forest snowfield (Ch. 138), Nami’s illness (Ch. 138), and now Dalton (Ch. 141 — heard dead just before Luffy’s punch lands) — but the Hiriluk flashback (pp. 9-17) is the reader’s moral context for Luffy’s punch. The chapter constructs a moral-justification frame around Luffy’s anti-Wapol grievance that Luffy himself does not yet know.
