Why this matters
The seed. Ch. 139 pp. 8-19. First on-page interior of the multi-spired Drum Castle on the highest peak — Kureha’s mountain hospital. The castle interior is loaded with alchemical glassware, skull-bottles, anatomical specimens, jars of bubbling liquid, a heart-emblem skull-and-cross flag-curtain. Kureha to Nami (p. 12): “You’re in the castle on the mountaintop.”
Why it might matter. Drum Castle was canonized in Ch. 133 as the castle without a king — a former royal seat now occupied by the one mountain doctor. Ch. 139 realizes the install: the castle interior is a hospital, the alchemical / medical iconography has overwritten the royal iconography. Pre-loads (a) the arc’s climactic Hiriluk-cherry-blossom-from-cannon scene (the castle tower becomes the staging-ground for the dream of healing the country); (b) the broader Drum-arc reframing of the castle from royal-power-seat to medicine-and-hope-seat; (c) the eventual re-founding of Drum as a kingdom under a new (better) ruler whose throne-seat is the same castle.
Technique. parallel-arc-structure (the medical-overwrite of a royal symbol parallels Alabasta’s broader good-king/bad-king axis); background-symbol (the alchemical-glassware-and-anatomical-skulls aesthetic visually overwrites royal heraldry); prop-tell (the heart-emblem skull-and-cross flag-curtain seeds Kureha’s later love-of-pickled-plums-and-romance running-gag).
