Kureha is introduced entirely through bystander folklore before she ever appears on-page — a
fairy-tale overlay (sky-riding sleigh, mountain-castle, Witch epithet) that frames her in
folk-witch / Krampus-Santa imagery. The most load-bearing element is the unnamed strange
beast that accompanies her: a negative-space seed. The reader has been told (Ch. 94) that Luffy
needs a doctor; the answer is one mountain away, hidden inside the Witch legend. Forward-canon,
the strange beast is Tony Tony Chopper, Kureha’s reindeer apprentice — the recruit who fills the
doctor-slot. Ch. 133 plants the doctor and her apprentice as a single mysterious silhouette.
