Chapter 927: Otoko the Kamuro

Summary

In the Flower Capital, Sanji works undercover as the soba cook “Sangoro,” running a wildly popular stand while Robin (the geisha “Orobi”) and Franky (the carpenter “Franosuke”) gather intelligence and allies. Thugs of the Kyoshiro Family arrive to extort protection money, deliberately knock over Sanji’s soba, and are beaten down — Franky suplexing their boss — though Robin frets the disturbance will draw “some awful guy” down on them. Sanji befriends Toko, a cheerful little kamuro (an oiran’s attendant) whose soba had been spilled and whose name puns on otoko, “man.” Toko hurries off to today’s Oiran’s Procession, where the crowd reveres the nation’s one and only oiran, Komurasaki — but her beauty is so “blinding” that onlookers faint and her face is withheld from the reader. Robin is told she too has been summoned to Shogun Orochi’s feast at his palace. In the Sakyo district, the defeated Kyoshiro orders his men to “Contact Queen,” while a shadowed Orochi drools that Komurasaki “will be mine today.”
