Name meaning
遊蛇 (read ユダ, 'Yuda') literally 'Traveling Snake' / 'Wandering Snake' — 遊 (yū) = roam / travel / play + 蛇 (ja/hebi) = snake. A fitting name for the migratory Calm-Belt sea serpents the Kuja domesticate to draw their ship (Fandom glosses it 'literally meaning Traveling Snake'). Possible (uncertain-intent) homophone layer: the katakana ユダ is also how 'Judas' is rendered in Japanese, resonant with the snake-as-betrayer / biblical-serpent association — flagged SPECULATIVE; the on-page kanji is 遊蛇, not the biblical name.

Profile

Yuda — colossal, fierce, poisonous sea-snakes of the Calm Belt. The Kuja domesticate them to haul the Pirate Empress’s ship across the windless dead-zone; the giant Neptunians (Calm-Belt Sea Kings) will not attack a Yuda, letting the Kuja cross monster-infested waters safely (Ch. 516 p. 5). race_tier: fauna — a notable recurring creature, not a sapient people.
