Profile

A ruined port settlement in Kuri, Wano Country. Captioned on-page “Ruins of Itachi Port, Kuri” (p. 11), it is where Luffy and the alliance regroup and where Luffy unfurls the recovered plans to Kaido’s mansion on Onigashima — the blueprints stolen by “the man from Kuri.”

Etymology

• Surface meaning: itachi (鼬) is Japanese for “weasel.” Wano’s Kuri-coast ports are named for Japanese animals (cf. Habu Port — habu 波布 = the Okinawan pit-viper), so “Weasel Port” is in-keeping with the region’s place-naming convention.
• Folklore layer: the itachi is a classic Japanese yokai / trickster — reputedly the most skilled of the shapeshifting beasts, its grouped cries an omen of impending misfortune, and itachi swarms were said to raise columns of fire that burn down whole towns (yokai.com). This resonates with the port’s fate as a present-day ruin whose ships are destroyed in Orochi’s sabotage (Ch. 959), and with the decoy-ship trickery later staged there (Ch. 975) — though no SBS confirms Oda intended these as puns, so the folklore link is read as resonance, not authorial intent.
