Sanji's Body Begins Changing After Donning The Germa Raid Suit
Status: pending · Technique: chekhov-explicit / wardrobe-foreshadow
The seed
Sanji tells Zoro (p. 5) his body has “felt a little off… ever since the second time I put on the raid suit,” then displays heat that makes Queen suspect a Lunarian/cyborg (“I know you ain’t a Lunarian!!”). Sanji insists “I’m all human!!!” The raid suit (the wardrobe object) is positioned as the trigger of a latent physiological change in the one Vinsmoke whose Germa modifications “failed.”
Ch. 1031 pp. 13–16 — the activation facet (folded)
Sanji’s body “itched” and transformed; he speaks of “the science that was already in my body” and “this thing” he “can say no more” about (pp. 13–16). A beaten geisha was found where he’d been “running along deep in thought,” raising the dread that the dormant modifications acted through him — directly contradicting his long-held belief he was a failed modification born human . He destroys the external raid suit (“Farewell, Germa!!”), but the internal science remains.
Ch. 1034 pp. 7, 10 — the acceptance facet (folded)
As his exoskeleton develops mid-fight, Sanji declares “I’m not the same person you fought back under the dome!!! I’ve already accepted my fate!! ” (p. 10) and refuses to be called a Vinsmoke (“Stop treating me like their family!!”, p. 7) — his body becoming the Germa weapon he spent his life refusing to be. The open question — whether the change also costs him his emotions/heart, the thing that made him the lone “human” Vinsmoke — stays forward.

(Unrecorded.)
Why this matters
A chekhov-explicit + wardrobe-foreshadow install: Oda has the protagonist’s friend explicitly flag that a worn object (the Germa raid suit) has begun altering his body, at the exact moment an antagonist scientist clocks his impossible heat. This is the inversion/payoff arc of the “failed one” seed — the body that “came out wrong” beginning to acquire the family’s engineered physiology.
CANONICAL note for the Sanji-body-change cluster . The kill-pact (Foreshadowing/Sanji Asks Zoro To Kill Him If The Germa Science Takes His Mind) is DISTINCT.
