Why this matters
The Ch. 100 posthumous-Roger monologue (“an inherited strength of will…”) installed the inherited-will doctrine without the D. initial; the Ch. 105 Monkey D. Dragon reveal foregrounded the initial without naming a Will; the Ch. 145 Hiriluk doctrine (A Man Dies When He Is Forgotten) installed the inherited-will-grammar in a non-D.-clan voice. Ch. 154 is the first chapter where the two halves fuse on-page — the will and the D. are spoken in the same breath, by a 139-year-old physician who recognizes Roger in his son on sight. Kureha is the first character in-world to articulate the Will of D. doctrine; every later articulation (Whitebeard’s death speech Ch. 576; Imu’s your old enemies Ch. 1086) re-keys to this single Drum-island moonlit-sleigh line.
(Correction, 2026-07-15: this pattern-list previously also cited “Saul to Robin Ch. 391” as a third utterance. No such line exists — Ch. 391 isn’t even part of the Ohara flashback featuring Saul, and Saul’s actual dialogue in Chs. 392/397 never invokes “the will of D.” Saul is removed from the pattern; the doctrine currently rests on the two verified utterances above.)
The chapter is load-bearing for the entire D.-clan mystery-frame the series has been quietly building since Ch. 1.
