The seed
The payoff
(Forward-canon: Chopper’s full backstory — driven out of his reindeer herd for being a Devil Fruit user, rejected by humans, taken in by Hiriluk — delivered in the Drum-arc flashback chapters.)
Why this matters
Resolves a triangulated set of seeds: the strange beast on Kureha’s sleigh (Ch. 133), the baby monster villager-reaction (Ch. 134), and the abominable snowman label (Ch. 148) are all the same person — Chopper, the Drum Island yeti-folklore figure. His on-page I may not have any friends admission (Ch. 148 p. 15) is the emotional core of the recruitment-witness beat that follows immediately — Luffy declares “I’m your friend!!!” (p. 16) in direct answer to the no friends line. The despised-outcast-finds-a-family recruitment-grammar is canonical.
