The seed
Yosaku (page 8 of Ch. 69): “Arlong’s a fish-man. He used to be Jimbei’s equal. … He makes Don Krieg look like a pussycat!!!”
Two implications:
- Arlong is warlord-tier — Jinbei is one of the Seven Warlords; Arlong is his equal. The 20M-berry East-Blue bounty (page 10) is structurally undervalued — Marines underrate East-Blue threats.
- Arlong and Jinbei share crew-history — used to be equal implies a relationship that existed prior to the Warlord-trade. Forward-reveal: Sun Pirates era under Fisher Tiger (Ch. 621+) — both Arlong and Jinbei (and Hatchan) were Sun Pirates officers; after Tiger’s death, Jinbei took the Warlord deal, Arlong refused and split off.
The Ch. 69 holy-terror-released-into-East-Blue doctrine implies a Jinbei-Arlong rift over the fish-men/humans political question — Jinbei accepted compromise with the human world; Arlong refused and went rogue.
