Profile

Shinobu’s Paramecia power, shown via her “Ripe-Ripe Enticement Jutsu” — she can rapidly ripen / over-mature / rot what she touches; “can make anything ripen into a more mature form” and “anything that Shino touches will instantly spoil rotten” (p. 9). On-page Ch. 924 she ripened the ground into a rescue sinkhole, saving the group from a collapse (with Okiku carrying the others to safety). First on-page use + naming of her ability.

Lore & theories

The over-ripening/rot mechanic is the inverse of growth — a maturation/decay power. Etymology done: the fruit is the Juku Juku no Mi (ジュクジュクの実), confirmed by Vivre Card #1296 (not lettered on-page in-window). The name is a double reading: 熟 juku / 熟す jukusu = “ripen, mature” (databook gloss “Mature”) and じゅくじゅく jukujuku, the mimetic word for an oozing/festering/sodden state — the two halves covering ripen → over-ripen → rot. See frontmatter etymology. Cross-link Nature of Devil Fruits, Shinobu.
