29th-Anniversary-Color-Centerspread
A single decorative color centerspread, NOT a serialized cover B-plot.
Ch. 1188 (“Vohu”) opens on pages 1–2 with the One Piece 29th-anniversary
color centerspread (Weekly Shonen Jump #33): the full Straw Hat crew swims through a
sunken/ruined city — a crowned green frog-turtle steed carries Luffy &
Chopper, Nami holds a bubble/air bottle,
sharks and a Wadatsumi-like fish-face loom in the background. Per the reader’s
Notable panels, this is decorative anniversary art (not story-foreshadowing) — no
recurring cover-serial banner, no “Vol. N” installment counter, no reader-request credit.
It is logged here in one place so future reader/cover passes do not spuriously fork this anniversary splash into a new cover serial, mis-file it as a missing installment of a running anthology, or fold it into the concurrent B&W reader-request gag bin.
Cover-slot context — this is a color-anniversary interruption, not a serial start. During the Elbaf arc the chapter-title cover slot has been alternating between the numbered Ogre-Child Yamato pilgrimage serial and the standalone B&W reader-request gags binned in Elbaf-Reader-Request-Title-Pages. Ch. 1188 is neither: its page-1 slot is taken by a full-color 29th-anniversary centerspread (an issue-anniversary celebration piece), which carries no reader-request caption and no serial banner. So 1188 is not a reader-request one-off and is deliberately not logged in that bin’s table.
Installment table
| Chapter | Volume | Beat |
|---|---|---|
| Ch. 1188 | — | One Piece 29th-anniversary color centerspread (WSJ #33), pp. 1–2 of “Vohu.” The full Straw Hat crew — Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Brook, Franky — swims through a sunken/ruined city led by a crowned green frog-turtle steed. Single decorative color spread; no recurring banner, no installment counter, no continuation. VIZ splits the spread: p.1 = Nami / Chopper / Robin / Franky + the crowned frog-turtle steed; p.2 = Sanji / Zoro / Luffy / Brook / Usopp + sharks, with the credits footer “Translation: Stephen Paul · Lettering: Vanessa Satone.” |
Notes
- No forward-canon payoff hook. The reader flagged the spread as decorative anniversary
art, explicitly “not story-foreshadowing,” so this is recorded as a stand-alone color
centerspread only — no cover→main-plot merge, hence no
payoff_chapterand notechnique/cover-story-payoffForeshadowing entry. (Textbook contrast: the Caribou → Wano cover→main payoff, which this splash is not.) - Not a numbered title-page series. No on-page “Series #N” / “Vol. N” caption; this is an un-numbered standalone anniversary color piece (contrast the numbered installments in Chapter-Title-Page-Series-7-Cloud-Island-Set / Eight-Part-Title-Page-Series-Man-and-Flying-Machine).
- Continuity guard. The concurrent Elbaf-arc cover registers are the numbered Ogre-Child Yamato serial and the B&W Elbaf-Reader-Request-Title-Pages gag bin. Do not re-file 1188 into either, and do not re-open this anniversary splash as a new B-plot.
