Name meaning
クウィゴス *Kuuigosu* is a reverse-reading pun: read the kana backwards and you get スゴイウク *sugoi uku* — 'floats unbelievably / amazingly.' Oda confirmed the gag himself in the Vol. 66 SBS Question Corner. The VIZ English caption localizes it as 'Taolf Wood' — 'Taolf' is the English word 'Float' spelled backwards, mirroring the same reversal device. So both the Japanese name and the official English name literally encode the wood's one property (extreme buoyancy) via a back-spelling. In the same SBS Oda ties it to the 'wood that floats unbelievably' that kept the Devil-Fruit user Mr. 3 afloat after his KO in Alabasta (Ch. 175 / Vol. 25 SBS) — a retroactive continuity nod, not a forward reveal.

Structural lore — what Oda has confirmed about this. Mysteries live in Vault/Threads/; this is what the world IS.

A clean example of Oda’s reverse-reading naming technique, where a prop’s name back-spells its single defining property.
