Profile
The sealed steel tower within Ryugu Castle where Princess Shirahoshi has been confined for ten years for her protection from Vander Decken IX, whose Mark-Mark curse lets him hit her with a homing weapon every week wherever she goes. Soldiers may enter only five minutes at a time, by King Neptune’s order (Ch. 613 p. 10). The title location of the chapter. (Earlier glimpsed as the sealed inner tower of Ryugu Castle where Luffy first stumbled onto the giant princess, Ch. 612.)
Etymology
- “Hard-Shell Tower” / “Shell Tower” — the shell motif fits the Ryugu (dragon-palace) undersea register.
Key chapters
- Ch. 613 — first named/shown: Luffy reaches Shirahoshi’s room via Megalo while foraging for food; Shirahoshi covers for him with the guards and explains why she cannot leave; Luffy resolves to take her outside.
- Ch. 614 — located in the north-east sector of Ryugu Castle (p. 13), under the Minister of the Right’s jurisdiction. Vander Decken IX bombards it throughout the chapter — “The impregnable Ryugu Castle has been penetrated” (p. 16). Luffy and Shirahoshi escape the tower inside Megalo toward the Forest of the Sea (p. 17).
