The seed

Ch. 108 — Zoro alone defeats the entire Whisky-Peak bounty-hunter garrison (~100 cohort) while the rest of the Straw Hats sleep off the banquet-trap. Ch. 109 continues the doctrine: Zoro alone defeats Mr. 8, Mr. 9, and Ms. Wednesday — the three surviving Baroque-Works officers — without his crewmates ever awakening.

Why this matters

Zoro’s solo-clears-arc-mid-tier-villains doctrine is established as the crew’s gatekeeper-defender combat-role. The pattern recurs throughout the series:

The Whisky-Peak-arc-establishment of Zoro-as-the-crew’s-disposal-mechanism-for-the-arc’s-officer-tier-villains is the foundational install of this structural combat-role. Cross-link Captain-Asleep Officer-Cohort Combat Composition (the Ch. 0108-0109 captain-sleeps-while-first-mate-clears-the-arc composition that this doctrine inverts the East-Blue-arc captain-always-in-the-finale register).

Ch. 0190 — Cross-officer cross-arc recognition payoff

Ch. 190 p. 7 — Mr. 1, to Zoro: ‘You’re the swordsman who took down a hundred men at Whisky Peak.’ — Zoro’s Ch. 0108 Whisky-Peak solo-100-man-takedown is operationally-known intelligence within Baroque Works’ Officer-Agent tier. The cross-arc cross-officer recognition canonizes Zoro at Officer-Agent-pair-tier in BW’s threat-grading. The Whisky-Peak-arc-establishment of Zoro-as-the-crew’s-disposal-mechanism-for-the-arc’s-officer-tier-villains is now BW-cross-officer-validated. Mr. 1 recognizes Zoro on sight as Officer-Agent-pair-tier-qualifying opponent; Doublefinger cedes Zoro to Mr. 1 explicitly (‘You want me to stay out of it… don’t you? Be my guest.’). Cross-link Zoro Whisky Peak Hundred-Men Massacre Acknowledged By Mr 1 Cross-Officer Recognition (new — load-bearing).
