The seed
Rebecca, hiding Luffy in the “Cells,” lets slip “I never… get hungry… Mother…” (p. 13) and then, in a tearful resolve, ties herself to a “toy soldier” who is leading “his army” against Doflamingo today, who “is ever at your side,” and who has “always protected” her — vowing “This time I want to protect HIM!!” (p. 19). The chapter never names this soldier or explains the bond, planting a deliberate negative-space gap around Rebecca’s parentage.
Ch. 727 — “the HERO’s grand entrance”; the toy soldier = Rebecca’s father
Page 1’s title splash (a lean, caped hero with an X across a bare chest amid ruins), the p. 3 reveal that the toy soldier (Thunder Soldier ) is Rebecca ’s father and King Riku ’s son-in-lawDoflamingo ’s closing line — the nation must hate King Riku “before the HERO can make his grand entrance!!!” (p. 19) — converge to seed the toy soldier as Dressrosa’s hidden hero poised to ambush Doflamingo’s scheme.
The “soldier” (Kyros ) ascends with Team Luffy toward Doflamingo ; Rebecca , steeling herself to fight Diamante at the flower field, thinks ”…Father will be here as well!! ” — the toy-soldier-protector now openly wars on Doflamingo at her side. The payoff
Ch. 791 — the toy soldier’s ten-year war ends in victory
Closing narration honors the “captain” who “fought for ten long years… to restore the honor of the deposed King Riku ” (pp. 16–17), and the flashback shows Luffy keeping his promise to protect the toy soldier and Rebecca (p. 13). Why this matters
Oda hangs Rebecca’s whole arc on an unexplained bond: a living “toy soldier” she would die to protect, a mother she will not speak of, and a body that “never gets hungry.” The withheld answers (who the soldier is, what happened to her mother, why she is tied to him) are the negative-space clue. Pairs with The Forgotten Legend of Kyros (the gladiator no one can remember).
