Ch. 239 page 5 (the “IT’S SKYPIEA!!” reveal)

The cloud-sea parts and the crew beholds Skypiea for the first time. The layout: a thick cloud layer anchoring the bottom of the frame, the white sky-city revealed rising above the clouds and occupying the upper two-thirds, a giant black SFX bursting in the upper-left corner (“DO”), a jagged caption-bubble naming the land (“IT’S SKYPIEA!!”), and a long arch curving through the cityscape. The facing page (p. 4) frames the same beat with the explorer-style caption box “Skypiea, Land of the Gods on the White-White Sea” + the “AN ISLAND!!” burst. ~900 chapters later the same arrival-splash grammar is restaged for Elbaf. A full-page establishing splash: a cloud layer at the bottom edge (the crew has just crested it — p. 13: “Once we pass these clouds… you’ll see it!!”), the Norse cliff-village on the great tree revealed above the clouds filling the upper frame, a giant black SFX bursting in the upper-RIGHT corner (“DOOOM!!”), a banner caption naming the land (“WELCOME TO ELBAPH!!”) in the upper-left, and a prominent rainbow arcing into the village — mirrored by Louis Arnot’s explorer scroll-caption (“To be in the presence of the Gargantuan is to know emotion…”) bottom-right, exactly the cited-author register of the Skypiea caption box. As at Skypiea, the land is reached by an impossible upward sea-voyage: here the giants “draw” solid rideable rainbows the ships sail straight up (p. 6 — two longships ascending a diagonal rainbow into the clouds, “We’re really riding on it!!!”), the rainbow-road counterpart of the Knock-Up Stream geyser.

Why this matters

Both splashes share the same arrival grammar: a cloud-sea-below → fabled-elevated-land-above vertical stack, a giant black SFX detonating in an upper corner, and a burst/banner caption naming the land the instant it’s revealed. It is not merely thematically alike — the staging (cloud layer pinned to the bottom, the long-mythologized land rising into the upper two-thirds, the named “we’ve arrived” caption) is the same. Even the small grace notes rhyme: a curving arch threads the Skypiea cityscape, and a literal rainbow is the road into Elbaf.

The semantic rhyme is just as tight. Skypiea and Elbaf are the two great above-the-clouds wonder-lands of the journey, each reached not by sailing across the sea but up off it — the Knock-Up Stream geyser, then the rideable rainbow — and each one a destination the crew had heard of as half-legend long before seeing it. Elbaf doubles the “long-dreamed arrival” charge by cutting the splash against a childhood-vow flashback (p. 15, “Someday… I’m going to Elbaph!! To the village of warriors!!” — see Usopp Brave Warrior of the Sea Aspiration). Where Skypiea’s reveal landed on awe at a stranger’s heaven, Elbaf’s lands on the payoff of a vow — but Oda reaches for the same panel to say “you have arrived somewhere out of legend, above the clouds.”

Watch-for lesson: when the crew crests a cloud layer toward a land they’ve only heard of in stories, look back to the Skypiea arrival panel — the cloud-sea-below / land-above stack, the corner SFX detonation, and the burst caption that names the place. The mechanism of ascent gets reskinned each time (Knock-Up Stream → rideable rainbow), but the “behold the fabled land above the clouds” splash is the same beat. Elbaf is staged as Skypiea’s structural sibling, and the recurring Louis Arnot Warning Do Not Overstay Your Welcome In Elbaf caption hints the other Skypiea echo — a heaven that turns hostile — may be loaded too.
