The seed
Nami plays innocent on the castle stairs (“I’m just a navigator who’s passing through.”), shoves Wapol down a long flight of stairs (BOO!! …LIAR!!!, pp. 6-7), and lifts the key to his arsenal off his coat in the contact. Reveals the theft three pages later (p. 13) and tosses the key off the castle peak (p. 15). Wapol does not realize the key is gone until he tries to open the weapons room (p. 12).

Why this matters
The Nami quietly steals while the brawlers fight pattern is one of Oda’s most reliable arc-grammar saves. The captain wins the fight on-page; the navigator wins the war off-page. The chapter’s apparent climax (Luffy snapping Wapol off his Sanji-headbutt rampage) is structurally secondary to the chapter’s true save (Nami already neutralized the human weapon threat with a pickpocket eight pages earlier). Pre-loads forward-canon recurrences (Crocodile’s Eternal Pose, Skypiea’s gold, etc.). The pattern also justifies Nami’s combat-non-participation register: she does not fight because she does not need to — her contribution is theft-as-tactic.
