The seed
Why this matters
The duel is structurally configured as the arc-climax:
- Captain-vs-arc-villain pairing — Luffy (Straw Hat captain) vs Arlong (Arlong Pirates captain). Officer-tier combat-pairs (Sanji-vs-Kuroobi, Zoro-vs-Hatchan, Usopp-vs-Choo) resolved Ch. 87-88; this is the last unresolved combat-pair.
- Doctrinal-climax setup — Arlong’s no mere human can kill me (Ch. 88) and nobody can beat me in the water (Ch. 91 page 13) form a stacked villain-reads-the-rule structure. Luffy as the non-human Devil-Fruit-user is structurally framed as the required executioner of the no-mere-human doctrine.
- Asymmetry-resolution — the chapter installs the water-versus-courtyard asymmetry as the combat-arena geometry. The arc-climax must resolve how a DF-user beats a fish-man on the fish-man’s element.
Forward-watches
- Ch. 92-94 — the arc-climax combat-resolution chapters. Forward-prediction: Luffy uses the courtyard/water boundary itself as the arena — fights only when Arlong emerges, exploits the geometry of Arlong Park itself.
- Arlong Park destruction — the I will sink this ship (Ch. 50) captain-declarative grammar may recur as I will destroy this park — pre-loaded by the Ch. 91 KRASH!! of Arlong’s own Shark Darts through his park’s walls.
