Why this matters
The doctrine is the captain-side anti-doctrine to the Ch. 66 Sea Hates Devil Fruit Users Axiom — when the captain-side duel is locked, the captain chooses fight over survive, even at structural disadvantage.
Structurally:
- Survival-rationality says retreat — Luffy can’t swim; Arlong is faster underwater; second Shark Darts will likely hit.
- Captain-side duel-lock overrides survival-rationality — Luffy has personally taken Nami’s side; the duel is structurally locked; the captain cannot withdraw without violating the captain-side duel-claim grammar (cf. Luffy Captain-Side Duel Claim).
Forward-pattern: every later arc-climax where Luffy fights despite anti-DF traps iterates this doctrine:
- Alabasta — Luffy continues fighting Crocodile in the desert despite water-weakness.
