The seed
The payoff
(What it turned out to mean. Two strands — Hiriluk’s outlaw past, and the location of the land in the far west.)
Why this matters
Two seeds in one beat: (a) Hiriluk’s pre-doctor identity — a former notorious robber / worthless outlaw on the verge of death, redeemed by a medical miracle into a quack-doctor doctrine of no-one-need-die-of-disease — establishes the redeemed-outlaw-becomes-healer register that Chopper structurally inherits as the not-human-not-animal-becomes-doctor register. (b) The land in the far west — an off-page geographic referent for a region where the cherry-blossom cure phenomenon is real. The chapter installs it as a real place; the synthesizer/master-weaver should keep an eye on later chapters for a name-drop. (Candidate forward-canon resolutions: South Blue, the unnamed-island-system, or a Grand Line cherry-island.) Both seeds expand the kingdom-of-doctors-with-one-doctor-left premise into a kingdom-of-doctors-with-a-folk-cure-mystic premise.
