Why this matters
Canonizes Drum as a globally-known medical-superpower. Up to Ch. 136 the reader has understood Drum primarily as “the kingdom with one doctor left” (Ch. 133-134 Dalton characterization) — a story of medical destitution. Ch. 136 reveals that the destitution was a recent collapse of what had been a world-renowned medical reputation. The kingdom’s name carried weight in the wider world; outsiders went to Drum specifically for medicine.
