Why this matters
Chopper’s first-on-page beat is risking his life to keep a dead doctor’s flag flying. The flag is more than a symbol — it is the structural marker of Chopper’s identity, the thing he stands for when he has no friends. The line “As long as the doctor’s flag is up, I…!!!” (truncated mid-vow) is the Chopper-thesis: he exists in service to his mentor’s promise.
Adds Chopper to the Loyalty to Dead Master Pattern roster — joining Sanji-Zeff, Nami-Bell-mère, Usopp-Banchina. The future Straw Hat is introduced defending the legacy of a lost parent-figure.
