Captain John Treasure Marker Reaches Buggy
Status: pending · Technique: prop-tell, chekhov-explicit
The seed
Buggy has hunted “Bloody” Captain John’s treasure since the Jaya era (Ch. 233); SBS Vol 49 confirmed the Thriller Bark zombie “Captain John” (Ch. 451) is the same dead pirate, killed by his own crew over the hidden hoard. In Ch. 527 (pp. 10-12, 18) the decorative armband Luffy carries (looted from Moria’s Thriller Bark hoard, gifted by Nami) is revealed to be Captain John’s treasure marker, and Buggy — by sheer luck — finally takes it.
The payoff

Why this matters
A long-fuse prop-tell: the marker is now in the hands of the one man obsessed with the treasure. Oda parks a Chekhov prop in Buggy’s possession years before any payoff — the kind of comedic-luck-meets-deep-continuity seed that defines Buggy’s whole arc (cover-story survival → Warlord → Cross Guild).
